Topic: 2024-Unpaid Care and Domestic Work
Country: Sudan
Delegate Name: Nabeeha Elmi

Background:
The Republic of the Sudan has been committed to achieving gender equality for decades among
men, women, boys, and girls In fact, the Sudanese government not only passed laws making
FGM punishable by jail, but they’ve approved of and adopted National Strategy and Action
Plans to accelerate national efforts to end child marriage and human trafficking by 2030. One can
admit that these are small steps toward gender equality, but small steps foward are prefferable to
no steps forward or even steps backward. One of these small steps is stopping gender inequality
at its root: education. Despite Sudan’s low government expenditure in education, they’re quickly
seeing its purpose as a guide for the rest of one’s life and plan to pass laws that grant every child
the right to a public, high-quality education.
A high-quality education allows girls to earn high-paying jobs as women in the future.
