As countries develop into democratic type government, voting becomes open and new to the public. Whether it be Kenya, Ghana or Afghanistan, there must be universal laws and restrictions that are agreed upon for each situation. The People's Republic of China would like to focus attention on the protests which occurred in Iran. A country is responsible for national sovereignty, and the United Nations must respect that. What happens inside a countries border is an internal matter and the United Nations should not intervene.
The Tiananmen Square Incident which occurred in 1989 is a prime example in the type of national sovereignty that the People’s Republic of China longs for internationally. As a country, we have our own independent authority, and took control of the situation. The People’s Republic of China supports the general idea of the United Nations Development Program.
According to the Electoral Assistance Division, countries that request assistance are not always receiving it. The People's Republic of China believes that if a country asks for assistance, they should receive it. In the past year, the response has been relatively high, however, in 2005 the request seemed to sky rocket and only a small amount of the countries requesting for help actually received assistance. As a committee we must work together to fund assistance to election violence and intimidation without interfering with any counties national sovereignty. The “United Nations Trust Fund for Electoral Observation” which was passed in 2007, could possibly be raised to help assist more countries.
The People's Republic of China main goal is to protect national sovereignty while at the same time help promote stable governments.
