We, Norway, aware of the varieties of social, racial, and sexual orientations of the world, believe fully that every man, woman, child whether straight or homosexual are entitled to the same human rights of a non-homosexual. Referring to our granted rights for homosexual couples, such as recognizing same-sex relationship, and same-sex marriage, and allowing these couples to adopt children. The homosexual couples also are allowed the same military rights as straight man or woman. Norway, through anti-discrimination ordinances and laws concerning gender identity and expression aware of the many indifferences in other UN countries emphasizes the necessity to authorize a resolution reaffirming anti-discrimination laws into the other UN countries.
Norway's parliament voted 23-17 in favor of the same gender-neutral marriage law, this reinforced the 1993 legislation that gave gay couples the right to enter civil union but it did not allow church weddings or adoption. This specific piece of legislation, following Denmark's outstanding belief in the equal opportunities of all people, draws the attention of the council to the discrimination of the homosexual population in the world. We, further proclaim an endorsement of an ordinance to support homosexuals and grant them the rights of marriage, adoption, army enlistment, and we are alarmed by the harm afflicted upon those with a gay or lesbian orientation.
Norway, taking into account the many opinions among the UN nations, recommends an agreement between nations to ensure the safety and rights of the homosexual population, pleads with the council, along with the other nations, to agree on a resolution to grant the rights of marriage, adoption, army enlistment, and non-discrimination to each gay and lesbian individual.
