The Democratic Republic of the Congo is strongly against xenophobic violence, but it also realizes that it is a rising issue in the world. However, this type of violence in nations can easily be solved without any intervention from the United Nations. Nations are able to handle issues on their own. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is fully situated to be independent from intervention itself.
Recently, there has been a large increase of immigration into South Africa. Of these immigrants, nearly 16% of them are Congolese. The Democratic Republic of the Congo would like to see the United Nations place more effective and protective immigration policies into effect. In recent years, there have been wars in our nations that have been countered with United Nations assistance. The fire of this war was lit when Rwandan allies refused to leave the country after a recent invasion. This war did not start due to xenophobic violence, but rather, it began due to a lack of respect for a country’s ability to act alone. Since the DRC is in full control of its decisions and people, no further intervention is needed from the United Nations. The Democratic Republic of the Congo believes all countries should have the choice to solve their conflicts individually before asking the United Nations for assistance.
Xenophobia is defined as “an unreasonable fear of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange.” When the United Nations intervenes into able countries, it is an unneeded action. The United Nations’ soldiers or protection plans can classify as foreign or strange, itself. The Democratic Republic of the Congo believes that if the United Nations halts intervention into countries and allows self-resolution, the conflicts will be solved quickly and counters to xenophobic violence can more quickly begin.
