Under education for girls is the effect of many causes, child marriage and unequal educations being two examples. It even comes down to lack of separate girl bathrooms. Most girls stop their education after elementary school due to these causes. Education is important to girls and gives them better opportunities and resources. As Kadiatou Coulibaly, Ph.D. who is the World Education Director of the Ambassadors’ Girls’ Scholarship Program, says “The world is acknowledging the importance of the girl child. Girls are traditionally the last to receive an education, the last to be fed at the table, and on the whole seen as less valuable than boys.” What is the reason that we think of girls as less valuable than boys?
How can we, as a committee, help countries that need economic support provide education for girls? How can we also make schools better for girls in the sense of private bathrooms, equal education and safe transportation to and from school? These are questions we must answer.
The United States would like to see a resolution that would represent, include, and protect girls at schools and transport to schools. We would also like to help countries with infrastructure, if needed, for better roads, bathrooms and transportation and of course, better school for girls to attend.
As the United States National Security Strategy says “Evidence shows that investments in women’s employment, health, and education are correlated with greater economic growth and more successful development outcomes.” Providing a better education for girls is beneficial to a whole community.
We know that no country can reach its economic potential when half of its population is under educated so let’s work towards building a better future for girls.
