The world of the Middle East has been surrounded by a whirlwind of unrest. During this delicate time of the changing hands of government, it is important for the United Nations to understand its role without overstepping national sovereignty. Jordan feels finding a balanced solution that proves applicable by UN resources is currently crucial.
In order to move forward, Jordan feels that a decision on how the United Nations go through conflict resolution needs to be reviewed and altered in order to make it more suitable to the problems of the Arab nations in disconnect.
The traditional mechanisms practiced flourished in the time of the Cold War; however, this system has proven ineffective in some African nations: split countries fighting in bloody battles for political dominance. Jordan feels that the United Nations needs to customize a resolution to fit the needs of these civilly split nations. Jordan feels that a line must be drawn on when the United Nations should enter a country’s conflict or when national sovereignty must remain intact because a country is able to deal with the conflict on its own. Jordan believes that the spread of peace across all nations create a better world for all, and if a country is unable to achieve this over a five year span, the United Nations must intercede to create balance.
Jordan feels positive in the United Nations’ ability to intercede and create agreement amongst dissenting groups within a country.
As time marches on and civil unrest within a country increases some countries have taken notice well others have fallen as prey to militaristic regimes. When Jordan was faced with protest, we heard the needs of the people and began drafting changes to our constitution. Jordan was able to keep the peace within its country. Other nations unable to do the same, should welcome help from the UN, and the United Nations must understand their role as a strong help in rebuilding a country, not becoming dictator to the rehabilitation.
