Pakistan is home to a wide variety of more than twenty endangered languages. As a result, Pakistan recognizes the severity of endangerment of many different types of languages on the global scale. Pakistan emphasizes the importance of preservation efforts of these languages for the benefit of the world community both culturally and economically.
It is of the belief of Pakistan that while there are many social and economic benefits to establishing one common language, it is also important to preserve endangered languages for the sake of protect cultures and traditions. People have a right to learn their native language, especially when it contributes to their culture. Efforts should be put forth to maintain and/or save currently endangered languages, as well as providing nations with the means to establish one or more uniform languages if they so choose. Preservation efforts of endangered languages can begin with the increased documentation of linguistic heritage and conduction of linguistic surveys to document current languages at risk of becoming extinct. Countries that do not have the means to provide these options should be assisted in doing so. Establishing and learning new languages can contribute to diversity among populations, which is something that is highly valued in Pakistan.
As previously mentioned, Pakistan believes continuing traditional languages to benefit much-valued cultures in Pakistan. In order to preserve these languages, Pakistan believes it to be most effective to implement language preservation programs (such as Endangered Language fund, Alliance for Linguistic Diversity, and many others) in order to preserve and disperse languages.
Pakistan hopes to attain a successful resolution to this pertinent issue and looks forward to addressing it in its entirety.
