SAWLs) is very important to the country of India. India has had many problems with gun regulation and lack of it. There have been multiple mass shootings including the Akshardham Temple Attack in which 33 people were killed and 80 others wounded, the Chittisinghpura massacre in which 36 people were killed, the 2002 Qasim Nagar massacre in which 29 people were killed including 13 women and a child, and many other mass shootings.
There are over 6 million legally registered guns in India and though illegally acquired guns cannot be counted there are an estimated 33 million illegal firearms. India believes that there should be a better system for detecting and eliminating the spread of illegal SAWLs throughout all nations.
There are many laws in India restricting how many firearms are allowed to be distributed and who is allowed to own firearms. In recent years (2008-2014) there have been between 6 thousand and over 12 thousand deaths due to firearms per year. Most of these deaths are homicide and due to gun violence. In an effort to lower these numbers India proposes more cooperation between nations to eliminate black markets and illegally imported and exported from each country.
By following and respecting the laws on gun control in other countries and working together to stop the illegal arms dealing nations can improve gun safety around the world.
