We, the state of Switzerland, strongly believe in the accountability of the United Nations. It is important to have an accountable United Nations to keep peace between countries and to solve any and all international infringements. In order to create a safer world, the accountability of the United Nations must be strengthened. Starting with everyone involved being heavily responsible and also allowing outside players to contribute to the United Nations actions, the United Nations will begin to become more accountable through a variety of means.
By strengthening the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), establishing a committee to oversee the general assembly and its decision, a management committee to ensure strategic decision on internal issues within the United Nations, and a senior’s management committee to set goals for the upcoming years. Not only that, but continuing to create committees or systems for specific problems that take place, such as an ethnics office, a whisteblower protection policy, and reviews on delegations. The reviews on delegations would include checking to see the following of procedures of previous resolutions, involvement in discussions within the committees, and probably representing themselves.
There are a variety of ways to improve the United Nations, especially within the committees. Many of these steps needed to be taken are to improve the infrastructure to secure the safety of decisions and to also protect member states. Without these improvements, the accountability of the United Nations will continue slip, and corruption can occur within the committees. If corruption occurs within the committees, many of the decisions made will have to be reassessed and slow the process of the United Nations.
