Argentina believes that the use of GMO’s for nations and places in need of food supplies is not a necessary measure we should take for two reasons. The first reason being that they are unhealthy and can damage ecosystems in the surrounding areas of where they are being grown. Studies conducted by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine have shown organ damage in animals, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. All of these if not changed could be more detrimental to a nation than beneficial. When these GMO’s are then cross pollinated naturally it is almost impossible then, if the GMO is then found to be harmful, to take those genes from the existing gene pools and then making it harder and potentially more harmful in the long run. Second these GMO’s are not cheap. The process of finding a desirable gene for a specific plant and then introducing that plant into its new environment is not only slower but also could cost upwards of approx. $100,000,00.00. which frankly is ridiculous compared to the smaller approx. $1,000,000.00 it would take to do that same process faster and just as effective. If anything we need decrease the use of these GMO’s because it then makes those farmers, trying to grow and breed their crops truly, jobs much harder because then they must make sure cross pollination does not happen with the GMO’s contaminating their products. espically in the long run, even when the farmers using GMO's bave left the soil that the next farmer would try to use would then still be contaminated.
