The country of Norway is fairly neutral on the topic of Kurdistan being a sovereign nation. Although a portion of our government, specifically the Green Party, supports the idea of the nation Kurdistan. Norway would like to remain loosely involved with the topic of Kurdistan, generally speaking, and have no major ties to the issue.
Norway believes that the Middle East region is currently unstable due to political and civil unrest and the forming of a new nation will most likely cause further unrest in the region. That said, however, Norway, does believe in the right to vote, as we are a democratic nation. This being true, the country of Norway supports the Kurdish peoples’ voice to vote on political matters though we remain neutral on the defense of Kurdistan national sovereignty.
Norway does recognize the issue of the Kurdish people being one of the largest ethnic groups in the world that does not have their own state. Furthermore, Norway does recognize that in the region where the Kurdish people live they oftentimes may not have the opportunities to openly voice their political views to the Kurdish government. We believe this is due to political corruption, and widespread civil and political unrest. Norway suggests that the officials of the countries where the Kurdish population live provide the Kurdish people a voice in their nations’ affairs. In the region of Kurdistan, there is currently a large amount of civil and political unrest, which does not help resolve the issue of Kurdistan. The question of how this problem might be resolved leads us to our second topic of civil and political unrest.
