The conflict between Israel and Palestine over the West Bank has gone on for some time. Israel has disabled Palestinian sovereignty by claiming the West Bank, and using its military to unlawfully occupy it. For years, Israel has claimed and occupied the West Bank by building housing units, imprisoning peaceful Palestinian protesters, excluding Palestinians from their population registry, illegally demolishing Palestinian homes and buildings, and violating at least five categories of international human rights laws. Despite the fact that these intolerable acts by Israel have been going on for decades, this issue has still not been resolved
Namibia comprehends the struggle of Palestinians, since the Apartheid oppressed South African peoples, and the nation of Namibia gained independence only in 1990. This arbitrary conflict between Israel and Palestine leaves questions for the committee to answer. How can Israel be held accountable for actions in the West Bank? What are ways that Palestinians can be brought justice? How can the Palestinian people gain stability? These questions will shape committee, and provide focus and care to an open wound. Although Israel’s actions in the West Bank are questionable and concerning, Namibia is not biased against Israel. We strongly recommend that Israel comply with international law, and U.N. resolutions, and allow for a smooth and successful conclusion to this issue that has lasted decades, in the West Bank.
With questions in mind, a progressive approach can be taken. Nations can come together to write a durable resolution that will encompass the idea that Israel and Palestine can peacefully coexist with agreed upon, and recognized borders. The resolution should also include feasible legislation that Israel can follow. The resolution should include details on how Israel can stop moving into the West Bank, and overturn their occupation there, making amends with Palestinians.
This committee can provide adequate support for Palestinians, if guided in a productive manner. Committee will finally provide the end to oppression by Israel, and may create a peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. Namibia looks forward to putting an end to the hardships of many Palestinians, and creating a productive and tranquil solution.
