Burkina Faso wishes to applaud and commend the efforts being made by North and South Korea to establish amiable and peaceful relations on their shared peninsula. North Korea's agreement to shut down the Yongbyon nucler facility is a definite step towards the ultimate denuclearization that the United States and the rest of the peaceful world would like to see occur.
However, one must not overlook the ultimate ambiguity of the talks and agreements being formed. As a struggling, independent African nation, we understand peace does not always come easily. Ironically, it is a battle of compromise that must be waged between the parties involved. We hope that both North and South Korea are willing to commit to definte plans of continued peace talks and ultimate actions that will lead to a secure, safe, and peaceful future for the entire world.
We must also take a step back and examine the actions involving refugees that demand change. The infractions on human rights implemented by the North Korean government must be stopped if they wish for ultimate peace with South Korea. The refugees should be able to rely on more advanced and wealthy nations to ensure their plight does not end in sorrow or death.
