For over 50 years the two nations of Korea have been divided by war, but recently, the six party talks may have proven in the future to be the milestone in ending a seamlessly never ending war between the Korean nations. With the DPRK prompting a final end to the Korean War and promising to shut down their nuclear facilities by 2007 with a complete accounting of its nuclear arms, the DPRK is proving to be cooperative in an idea of a peace almost forgotten by the people. Though nothing comes free, the DRPK wants the United States to remove their name on the US list of state sponsors of terrorism with a large amount of aid to be thrown in. This being a worth enough trade off the US agree and it is now in pen having been signed by both parties.
Costa Rica strongly believes this a true start to the further advancement to peace throughout the Korean Peninsula. Costa Rica agrees with the United States in that no true end to the Korean War can be made without the verification of Nuclear disarmament by the DPRK. With this milestone met, Costa Rica congratulates a new beginning to a promising future between the nations. With many nations around the world expressing their glee for the Korean peninsula, Costa Rica can see allies to the cause.
Although we understand that there are some nations that believe that the UN should not be the ones handling the issue and more of the countries on their own terms, Costa Rica strongly supports the UN in trying to help two long living rival states to solve their difference for a chance a peace.
