The countries of North Korea and South Korea are now considering ending the long-lived Korean War in order to gain friendlier relations with one another. However, the United States – being an ally and a supporter of South Korea in the war – is requiring that the North Korean government shut down all of its nuclear power plants before any discussion of friendliness begins. On agreement for this term, the DPRK is bargaining that the United States remove them from their list of state sponsors of terrorism, given foreign aid, and a large sum (reported to be $300 million).
The Czech Republic’s Stance:
The Czech Republic stands as allies with South Korea, however the republic has no clear connections with either the United States or North Korea on this issue. The Czech Republic hopes to increase peace between the borders, however the Czech Republic is also concerned about the closeness of the nuclear activity to their country.
The Action Suggested:
The representative from the Czech Republic suggests that the United States of America proceed with its deals with the country of North Korea, however, the represenative of the Czech Republic does recommend that the DPRK not be taken off the terrorism list so quickly, and instead suggests that the United States wait until one year after the agreement has been set and then after the DPRK has been found without any nuclear weapons or nuclear weapon production plants or even ties with any other terrorist groups for at least one year. If not, aid may go to the country, but not the privilege of being taken off the threat list.
