In previous years past, the nation of India has truly been concerned over the nuclear activity taking place in North Korea, as were other nations in the international community. As a nation, we feel that the DPRK’s nuclear facilities and unauthorized tests have threatened the surrounding countries, as well as the rest of the world. Ultimately, our stance on this issue has consistently been to take whatever diplomatic means necessary to discontinue the DPRK’s nuclear program.
Fortunately with diplomatic negotiations and agreements between North Korea and other nations through the Six Party talks, India is pleased to see that substantial progress has currently being made. This progress includes North Korea agreeing to shut down their main nuclear complex by December thirty-first of this year in order to receive economic and energy aid, among other benefits. This can only result in a more peaceful transition to officially ending the Korean War and making amends with their bordering neighbor, South Korea. India would like to see these talks continue so that the safety of both North and South Korea’s citizens is ensured.
Although North Korea’s recent agreement to disarm their nuclear program is an issue many nations are concerned about, India is also fully aware of the other issues related to the Korean Peninsula that need to be dealt with just as well. In conference, the nation of India is willing to discuss these issues in order to create a solution, and in some cases, enhance solutions to the problems that are unfortunately affecting this region of the world.
