Rwanda strongly believes in the peaceful diplomatic resolution of the issue concerning the Korean peninsula. Now that North and South Korea are interested in ending the Korean War to begin to make peaceful ties, there will be a time for peace in the region. The Recent Republic of Korea has agreed to shut down the Yongbyon nuclear complex, which was a major source of conflict between the two nations. Rwanda welcomes the outcome of the Second Korean Summit, believing that it is the first step toward peaceful reconciliation. Rwanda is concerned with the living conditions of the people living in Korea due to the conflict. The six party talks have been a crucial catalyst in the progression towards peace in the region and Rwanda believes Europe’s involvement will be a critical aid to the region. The process of a harmonious peninsula in Korea is not a problem that can be solved quickly, it will be a set of long term goals that will help not only solve the immediate problems facing the two countries now, but will also increase long lasting stability and ties between the two nations. The main roadblock on the path to peace is the nuclear weapon program of the DPRK. The decrease in nuclear productivity is a good step toward unity between the north and the south. Rwanda beleives that North and South Korea must bond on many levels; socially, economicly, and policaly. Rwanda can do very little to aid the region, considering they can not even provide for their own citizens, however we hope the conflict is peacefully resolved.
