The Slovak Republic strongly advocates the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Various six party talks and negotiations resulting in encouraged disarmament of the DPRK have created a situation of progressing peace. However, any suspicion regarding nuclear possession and potential testing of DPRK nuclear weaponry must be confirmedly abandoned in order for international harmony to sound. Slovakia is deeply disturbed over the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea testing nuclear material. Slovakia’s target is to achieve peace and nuclear neutrality by working through negotiation and, most importantly, striving for actual international safety in light of Korea’s nuclear situation.
Nuclear threat is an international risk under which the Slovak Republic is not willing to be subjected. Ambiguous DPRK weaponry possession and nuclear non-proliferation contributed to the EU’s effective breakthrough negotiation, the shut down of the Yongbyon nuclear complex, and an accurate inventory of the arms North and South Korea have at hand. The Republic of Slovakia supports concessions in compensation for DPRK nuclear neutrality. It is in Slovakia’s highest interest that any form of nuclear experimentation or warfare is avoided at all costs. Peaceful resolution as a product of the Six Party Talks in 2007 is the ultimate goal for the Slovak Republic in this situation. Informal discussions about the Korean Peninsula’s nuclear program were held in March of 2007, including the 4th Strategy Session of North Korea Initiative organized by the Global Panel Foundation in Bratislava. The Slovak Republic has been host to top persons and experts dealing with the nuclear tension from various countries, Minister of Foreign affairs, Ján Kubiš and State Secretary of foreign affairs, Ms. Diana Štrofová largely presiding. The removal of the DRPK from America’s list of terrorist threats should be legitimized; this is, in terms of diplomatic cooperation, Slovakia, the EU’s, and the UN’s nuclear target.
