The evils of genocide have long plagued the republic of Afghanistan. From the years nineteen ninety four to two thousand four, for nearly an entire decade, our people suffered under the rule of the Taliban. This terrorist regime committed crimes against our nation, including, but not limited to, mass murders, assassination of our leaders, torture, and the destruction of many of our villages. However, due to recent involvement from the United States, along with several other nations, the Taliban has been put out of power, and will never again cause the suffering and despair they once did in our great land. Though we no longer suffer the horrors of the Taliban, I must say that our suffering could have been avoided had we come to this issue a long time ago and required a response to the genocide caused by the Taliban. Therefore, we the Delegation of Afghanistan give our complete support to any proposals that would prevent other peoples from having to suffer the terrors of genocide. We know we are not alone in our experiences, many other nations have seen the effects of genocide, and we hope that of these countries, those present will support the cause of eliminating genocide.
