Without a doubt, the impact of war on agriculture is a problem facing the world today. With an ever increasing amount of violence and fighting occurring, the destruction of agriculture is becoming a more common and dire problem. Famine is becoming commonplace among poor countries, who need a strong agriculture the most. The addition of war or genocide inside these countries only worsens this problem, and affects the peace and stability of the surrounding area. While in recent years, the United States has not seen domestic examples of these impacts, past history allows us to empathize with the problem, as we saw what our civil war did to the South’s agriculture. Agriculture is a key factor in sustainability, and the United States believes that any factor harming agriculture must be dealt with.
To combat this problem, the United States seeks the help of other developed nations to provide monetary aid to countries greatly affected by this problem, in addition to fighting the wars themselves by supporting democracy in the international forum. The United States also believes proper education is a key factor, as well as developing more sustainable agriculture methods so that crops may withstand natural occurrences such as flooding and hold up better in times of fighting. Finally, we are prepared to donate food aid to countries greatly affected, and hope that other nations join in and make an international effort to combat this growing problem.
