The Republic of Poland is an advocate of offshore drilling and believes that through continued growth the industry could play a major role in oil production. Drilling is rapidly expanding off the coast in Brazil, West Africa, Southeast Asia, Bohai Bay (China), and India, which will expand out diminishing oil supply. Multiple places are also being explored for possible oil reserves that will help oil production for future generations. Republic of Poland imports the majority of our oil supply (from Gazprom and other minor companies) and supports their methods used while drilling offshore.
Environmentally sound methods should be used with all drilling, as the technology is readily available and easily purchased. Codes of Practice are suggested to be placed on drilling companies to reduce the environmental damage done in the drilling process. Blowouts (when uncontrolled fluids flow from well) are important environment hazards that should be monitored at all times (blowout prevention systems are available for use.) We highly encourage individual countries to enforce these rules while not restricting any possible economic growth.
The economic benefits of offshore drilling are of critical to the success of nations on a global scale. The oil produced through offshore drilling feeds directly into economies, and drilling also creates more jobs and makes some countries less dependent upon others for fuel. With a sharply increasing world population, the need for more oil will continue to grow; placing regulations upon the industry now will ensure that, in the future, offshore drilling will be done using environmentally sounds methods.
