Prison reform is a tricky topic to talk about due to the lack of commitment by nations who are scared that their national sovereignty will be infringed upon. When it comes down to it, something needs to be done and it needs to be done in the quickest way possible but it also needs to be thorough.
There are many United Nations documents that need to be reaffirmed including the International Convention of Civil and Political Rights and also the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These documents talk about how all people should be treated with the dignity and rights of a human. They even talk about how even if their liberty is taken away, they should still be treated like that.
The DR Congo feels that all nations in this conference should be well read on these documents and that they should be ready to write a resolution based on the documents, even if all the resolution does is talk about the documents. As soon as conference starts, DR Congo will be ready to write a resolution and we call upon all nations to agree with the resolution and be ready to talk about it. Hopefully other nations will decide to write resolutions and I am fine with that because it will be nice to get different input and different ideas.
Our allies in this are everybody who wants to make a difference in the world and our adversaries, well, we don’t have any on this topic because we are here to make a difference in the way people look at these nations.
