The Republic of Kazakhstan believe that the world community should promote sustainable industries within developing nations. However, due to environmental problems that may be caused by industrialization, we believe that the global community should work together to find solutions to the problems that plague developing countries. Although we have not yet ratified the Kyoto Protocol, Kazakhstan has put a cap on greenhouse gas emissions. Kazakhstan has also joined global initiatives that try to supply clean fresh water to the people of developing countries.
While trying to keep an international focus on environmental issues the country of Kazakhstan has to deal with its fair share of problems. Soviet means of industrialization has left the people of Kazakhstan to deal with pollution of water, the shrinking of the Aral sea, and nuclear waste. With raw materials being one of the main exports of Kazakhstan environmental problems continue to get worse. This has led the government of Kazakhstan to pass environmental regulations, such as the forest and water codes, to help with the severity of the situations. However, the country of Kazakhstan does not have all the means to deal with the environmental issues facing it and has gotten the support of the international community to deal with problems such as the shrinking of the Aral sea and the nuclear radiation in the Semipalatinsk region. Even with the help of the international community, Kazakhstan is still having trouble coping with these disasters. That is why we believe that the international community should continue to help developing nations on environmental issues.
Kazakhstan is willing to help supply whatever aid is needed so developing countries can grow but with only minor impacts on the environment. We strongly encourage countries that are part of the G-8 to help developing countries and to provide aid to whatever solutions that the U.N. comes up with to tackle environmental issues.
We believe that a developing nation can grow and still protect the environment. The country of Kazakhstan knows the great economic troubles that come with protecting the environment, but we have seen that the great environmental troubles that come with without the support of more developed countries the means of growth and environmental stability are nearly impossible. That is why the government of Kazakhstan believes that the global community should come together and solve the problems that come with development. We do not want other nations to have to suffer through environmental tragedies such as Kazakhstan has. We believe that the United Nations should take a leading role in environmental protection and industrial growth. The Republic of Kazakhstan will support any means that promote industrial growth and environmental stability.
