The Russian Federation is committed to providing a sustainable and efficient global society. As a prominent industrial nation, we are devoted to stimulating the economies of developing nations. It is therefore pertinent that we consider the issue of sustainability in developing nations.
In the previous decades, developing nations grew prosperously and uninhibitedly to economic eminence. The most efficient way for a nation to develop its economy is through the regulation of a free market. It is, therefore, an impediment to the economy and thus the people of a nation for the United Nations to intervene in a free market economy and disrupt the delicate balance of a developing nation’s industries. The United Nations should not intrude upon the boundaries raised by the fundamental ideal of national sovereignty; the manner in which a nation’s economy functions should depend solely upon the government and the people of the nation in question; it should not depend upon the greedy influence of imperialist western nations. It is not the duty of the United Nations to dictate the functions of an individual nation; instead, the United Nations should encourage the development of new economies and a diversification of world power.
It is imperative that the United Nations realize the limitations that environmental regulations place on a developing economy. It is paradoxical to both place the additional economic burden of sustainable technology on an economically-developing nation and expect a nation to expand its economy and compete with highly-industrialized nations. The United Nations cannot reasonably expect struggling nations to bear the same weight that environmental emission regulations place upon industrialized nations and be competitive in the global market. Accordingly, the Russian Federation encourages the United Nations to defend national sovereignty and help developing nations to succeed in industrialization.
