Syria recognizes that solving sectarian and ethnic problems within our nation is a top priority. We've seen what can happen when these conflicts turn into something much bigger. We've heard of the mass genocides taking place in Rwanda and we've heard of the result of outbreaks in countries like Kenya. Some of these same countries are even fighting within there respective countries as we speak because of the outbreak of the sectarian and ethnic problems. We can't allow such problems to expand and take over our country like we've seen in so many other countries.
Syria realizes that is is the UN's role to keep peace within countries however, when one individual or a couple of individuals cause chaos that affects the whole country in a negative manner, those individual(s) must be removed from there point of power. Syria also realizes that if we were to act upon a certain group for their actions, we should also act upon the group(s) opposing them for their actions as well. We have seen so many cases in which one group is taken out of power while the other opposing group(s) ends up growing and expanding and eventually taking power within their respective country. We can't let this happen because this too may cause more unnecessary conflicts within a nation.
Syria believes that it would be in the best interest of the UN to work at solving these problems by tracing the source of these problems. If the leaders of these groups or clans that ban together to hate another group of people lose their central figure of determination and fight, they would relatively be nothing. From there, the home country could address any remaining conflicts that they wish to address. Syria believes this idea would be best for all because we, along with other countries, have had experience dealing with rebels who persist on creating racism and to take their “ring leaders” out of power would be beneficial to everyone they affect.
If allowed to carry out our plan, Syria fully believes that the main sectarian and ethnic conflicts within our country and many other countries would be undermined and put into a downward spiral. This would lead to better security and an overall better atmosphere for the people in Syria.
