The United States of America recognizes the high priority of providing safe access to drinking water to all people. Water is the most basic necessity of life, and we are committed to increasing safe access to drinking water to all people across the world.
The United States of America is uniquely blessed in its economic prosperity and accordingly has the resources to extend both economic and scientific aid toward less fortunate nations in order to develop better access to safe drinking water. The United States of America is solemnly cognizant of the oft-dangerous situations into which the citizens of developing nations must enter in order to acquire sufficient water, and the water that these citizens retrieve is often marred by malignant pathogens that can infect unsuspecting citizens with fatal diseases.
The United States of America also recognizes the increased demand for water due to the irrigation of arid farmland and the growing world population. In response, the United States of America is one of the foremost nations in researching ecologically-friendly techniques that will address both the water shortage through more expedient recycling of pure water and the development of technologies that require less water such as drip irrigation.
It is also of critical importance that this summit address the growing problem of pollution of our freshwater sources. The United States of America has taken unprecedented measures to ensure the environmental sustainability of its practices, and we encourage other nations to use sustainable technology as a means of preserving our planet. It is important that our actions at this conference not only address the current pressing hydration needs of citizens in developing nations but also incorporate technologies that will mitigate the environmental repercussions of our actions today. We are extremely hopeful that this important summit will stimulate true progress in increasing access to and preservation of clean freshwater sources.
