Israel is thoroughly dedicated to eliminating the use of child soldiers and lessening the terrible impact of war on children. We support SC Resolution 1882, and we wish to see similar resolutions that take more specific action against those who use child soldiers. While regional governments can be helpful in combating child soldiering, we wish to see more responsibility placed with NGOs and international assistance programs. Programs that prevent enlistment, rescue enlisted children, and secure futures for rescued children are of utmost importance to stopping the use of child soldiers.
Israel is deeply concerned about the number of children who have been effected by Palestinian violence and terrorism. Terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah have been specifically targeting and bombing Israeli schools for the past 40 years. Countless innocent children have died as a result of the violence, and thousands more have been wounded or deeply traumatized. Palestinian terrorist organizations regularly use their own children as human shields, suicide bombers, and soldiers, leading to a regrettably large loss of young lives. We wish to see definitive action taken against violent resistance organizations who use child soldiers both in the Middle East and worldwide.
Children are our future. Everyone can agree that we wish to see a brighter future for our children, and a brighter future for humanity. To achieve this, the UN must take an active role in eliminating the use of child soldiers, helping children who have been affected by conflict, and implementing education and development programs for children worldwide. Israel wishes to play an active role in securing a brighter future for the world's children.
