The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is alarmed by the number of underage children recruited into armies all over the world. Children make up approximately half of the Pakistani population, and we accordingly strive to protect the rights and lives of our invaluable youth.
In 1990, Pakistan attended the World Summit for Children and adopted a declaration on the survival, protection, and development of children. Though we may lack the resources of larger, more economically blessed countries, we still try very hard to provide the children of our country with adequate protection. To further implement to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, our government has established a National Commission for Child Welfare and Development. To keep abreast of developing concerns and anticipate new problems as our world expands and evolves our commission is assisted by a number of insightful committees which review existing legislation and policies and adapt them as necessary to ensure the fulfillment of the highest standards for our youth. We believe our children are the future of our world, and we look to them for a better, brighter tomorrow.
As a result of this conference, we would like to influence other nations to protect their youth from armed conflict and keep them safe. Also, we would like to see an increased and sincere effort toward providing more and better-equipped schools, proper nutrition, and sounder infrastructures for the world’s youth because one day, today’s youth will govern our world and lead us into a boundless new era.
