Turkey is deeply concerned with the number of children exposed to armed conflict around the world, either serving rebel groups, the government, or simply living in an area affected by armed conflict. These children have been sexually abused, maimed, murdered, affected by disease and malnutrtition, and deprived from social interaction.
This is all severely detrimental to a child’s well being; it affects them both psychologically and physically. Turkey would like to work towards their recovery. We realize that the base of this issue is in the armed conflict itself, and in order to aid the children, we must first take this on. This would be one of the issues we would like to work out with fellow countries. After this is taken care of, Turkey would like to see action taken to recover child combatants’ health. This would include educating them, providing food, healthcare, and intensive therapy. Realizing that procedures such as this require money, we would like to establish businesses in countries affected by armed conflict. This would provide both jobs, and economic stimulation. A portion of the profits from the said businesses would go towards local charities and organizations, then providing opportunities for the local peoples to better their situation. We would also like to discuss the possibilities for preventing children from being recruited in the future.
The country of Turkey is looking forward to working with many of you towards achieving peace for children. We believe this is possible through solving conflict, establishing a source of income for locals, and providing support for those affected by armed conflict.
