The Republic of Belarus, which holds the highest standards regarding racism, knows how important it is to rid the world of all forms of discrimination. An important quote from the 1963 General Assembly states, “Considering that the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 20 November 1963 (General Assembly resolution 1904 (XVIII)) solemnly affirms the necessity of speedily eliminating racial discrimination throughout the world in all its forms and manifestations and of securing understanding of and respect for the dignity of the human person”. This quote is important to consider because it was made in 1963 and still little has been done. Belarus believes that all people are created equal and those who cannot defend themselves should be able to rely on the international community for aid. All countries, including those sitting on the Security Council have a need to address issues of racism. One step to move forward should be aiding groups that are discriminated against in educating themselves, and protecting themselves from discrimination. This can be done with monetary resources or with education and volunteer work.
In 1963, the international community declared an obvious need for immediate action, it is now 2009 and nothing has been done. That is not swift action and the international community needs to respond much stronger. Belarus believes that once countries and groups or organizations that are responsible for these acts are reprimanded, many innocent people will avoid suffering.
