The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea strongly supports all actions aimed towards combating racism. This is a clear issue upon which all fair minded countries can agree. There is simply no place in this modern society for racism to take hold. The DPRK strongly urges that we make all haste in cutting racism at its roots, by refusing to tolerate discrimination on any level, and allowing each country to take charge of the education of its youth. Action in this area has been impeded by numerous lexical disagreements and territorial disputes. However this is no place for political tensions to take control. DPRK, in full faith of the United Nations, allows for this issue to be elevated in priority, as it does not wish to alienate any sect of society, or discourage equality on a global level.
However the DPRK would like to illuminate the fact that racism is an invented term. The horrors and implications that follow it can trace it origin directly back to The Americas, Europe, and much of the developed world. The appearance of this topic on the Agenda appears to be a guilty conscience crying out. There is nothing we, as the DPRK, would like to see more than the elimination of racism, in all forms. Yet, this invented term applies to specific situations and regions. Poorly constructed policies and unfortunately executed command strategies are at fault. The international community must commune in a manner that is both civil and lends no greater voice from one country over another.
We look forward to working with the many fine nations at this year’s conference, more specifically, on the topic of eliminating racism. We sense that the swift change that is spoken of will arise out of an attitude adjustment and shift in perceptions from many world powers.
