Racism is like a disease that affects the lives of millions of people every year. Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. This concept is about looking a human and deciding how they are treated based solely on his/her physical traits and attributes. As superficial and ridiculous as this ideal is, nations all over the globe practice racism every day. Some nations even strongly support this horrid view. Norway is one country who is working to reduce and eliminate this ludicrous ideal.
Even to begin with, Norway has an extremely small amount of racism in the country itself. This is due to the fact that nearly 90% of the countries population is Norwegian and Sami. Only a small 10% of Norway's total population consists of people who are not of the Norwegian ethnic group. Norway has even implicated programs to help prevent racism and its spread. The Antiracist Center in Norway is a nonprofit, politically nonpartisan institution which seeks to promote human rights and equal opportunities, and increase the understanding between the indigenous people and persons of non-Norwegian origin in Norway. The Center also provides individual assistance to persons who have become social, political and economic victims of racism and racial discrimination. This program is just one of twenty seven that Norway has adapted to eliminate numerous forms of racism. Norway is continuing to create new ideas for preventing the spread of racism throughout the nation.
