The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, particularly as an Islamic country, is all fully committed to combating racism and prejudices in all forms. Our state religion promotes openness and acceptance of people with different cultures and religions. Before we can work on a path to end racism, we must admit that as a nation, we have experienced difficulty with racism. Our efforts to combat what racism we still have will use a “bottom-up” approach rooted in our people and not a “top-down” approach that would be entirely dependent upon our government. We believe that increased education, dialogue, and communication about racism are critical components of racial harmony, and these are policies that we are implementing and that we encourage the international community as a whole to implement. Currently, the policies we have set in place are satisfactory to dissuading what little racism our country has. If racism experiences a resurgence, then at that time we could set up an additional committee to further address the problem and make a more contemporary plan of action. Before any of this can happen, as a nation and as a global community, we must admit that racism exists and poses a serious threat to international security.

At this conference we are interested to hear how other nations attempt to diminish racism in their respective countries and how effective their programs have been in practice. From listening to their ideas in this global forum, we can, develop a cohesive plan to combat racism. Moreover, at this conference we would like to see a greater commitment to raising public awareness on racism because we believe that this will motivate many people around the world to work diligently to fight and defeat racism and its unfortunate repercussions.

Respectfully submitted,

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan
