The state of Palestine has been under question ever since Great Britain released it from its’ control in 1948. Palestinians have been given the land in Gaza and the West Bank but feel they deserve the right to the land that comprises the modern-day state of Israel. The rights have been disputed for decades and a diplomatic solution to the issue of land-rights is well overdue. There has been much violence on each side but Libya believes that the UN can help bring about peace in the region.
Libya has long supported Palestinian rights, a fact that has been contested repeatedly by the United States. The U.S. Believes that Libya’s advocation of groups such as the Palestine Liberation Organization is the equivalent of promoting terrorist groups. Libya is simply sympathizing with the situation of a fellow Arab state and recognizing that civilians in the West Bank and Gaza are being oppressed and downtrodden by the Israelis. Libya believes that a peaceful coexistence could be made possible in the state of Israel and believes that the UN should host meetings between leaders of the Israeli government and of Hamas and Fatah.
While a resolution to conflict is in progress, there is still much violence going on in Israel and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are forced to undergo very strict protocol which seldom allows them to pass from city to city and rarely lets them out of the regions borders. Libya believes that there needs to be a more effective security system implemented in the region until conflict is resolved. One that supports the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights which both parties involved in the conflict are subject to, perhaps. Libya hopes that a solution to the conflict may come out of this meeting and looks forward to a peaceful agreement between the people of Israel and Palestine.
