Kim Jung Il leads the country of North Korea. Under Kim Jung’s rule, North Korea withdrew from the 1953 UN armistice, which had previously ended the Korean War in May 2009. North Korea also took two US journalists in the summer of 2009, but later released them. It has come to Malawi’s attention that North Korea has been testing long-range missiles. Malawi, as well as many other countries, view North Korea as a threat. Nuclear Power is a great worry to Malawi because although Malawi is a small country and not much of a threat to North Korea, a nuclear war will drastically affect the whole world, whether through destruction or through altering the environment.
Malawi is a developing country and cannot take any negative changes in our environment, nor can we afford to be in any war, or affected by any more violence. Malawi is willing to work with other countries to address the situation in the Korean Peninsula, and we urge that the problem be solved in as peaceful and logical way.
If the problem is addressed as soon and in as peaceful and logical way as possible it could mean that out earth is saved from a potentially dangerous situation. Once the threat is obliterated, the United Nations can worry about other issues that also need to be addressed, but are as of now overlooked because of the threat of North Korea.
