Palestine extends its deepest condolences to the people of North Korea, we fully know what it is like to be oppressed. On that note we would like to state that we are fully against the recognized government of North Korea. No one, be they leader of a country or rebel against it, should deny people their basic rights. This “Songun” mentality is pure rubbish, the military only exist to protect its people. In fact basic logic states that if a military is going to exist it must have a civilian pool to recruit from.
This lack of regard for civilian welfare or even basic logic shows on Kim Jong Il’s part. Now Palestine hopes it is not the only nation to recognize that it is dangerous to allow this kind of man to exist. He has shown time and time again disregard for international law as can be seen in his nuclear program. Also he has created laws that contradict themselves for example South Korean propaganda is not to be touched by any North Korean, however that propaganda is to be thrown away as soon as possible. Now unless every citizen is awarded a tool that can pick up trash without touching it then it is apparent that common sense is not something the dictator was blessed with.
But what is to be done on this front? It is beyond the purview of the United Nations to dispose of a government even if it is quite obviously detrimental to basic human rights. So Palestine purposes a very basic solution, hold democratic elections monitored by the U.N. within the country to see if the leader should remain in power. These plebiscites would be done by region so the U.N. forces are not to wide spread but without the regions results being made public knowledge. However what needs to still be discussed in conference is a way to protect these civilians from both physical and mental abuse from either side.
However Palestine is not naive it recognizes that certain parties will have a vested interest in keeping away any democratic means. However we hope that the democratic hound dogs (i.e. America, Britian, France) will be willing to extend their influence in a manner that will make sure North Korea has no choice but to accept these turns. However some of the Asian powers may be against the unsettling of the status quo. As always international trust and agreements will have have to built so that the people of North Korea have to suffer no longer.
