Basic education is one of France’s top four priorities and we consider this to be a very important issue in our agenda. France has a well developed educational policy that should be considered as a role model for developing countries. Regarding world access to education, France believes that every student should be subject to equal opportunity. Social, economic, and cultural inequality should be considered as an obstacle that must be addressed when developing a policy. In the past, there have been riots in France in response to unequal provision of educational resources for the “underprivileged” class. Our efforts to redistribute these resources should be considered when creating policy for equal opportunity for everyone worldwide.
Our government has been working to improve education for disabled students, and passed a law in 2005 to establish equal rights for these students. It is the responsibility of our system to ensure that these rights are applied. We have also created a plan to increase development of our apprenticeship program. Through this program, students learn new skills and knowledge as well as other practical studies. Our plan is to increase our number of apprentices from 370,000 to 500,000 in the next five years with the intention of teaching these youth the value of “employment and social cohesion”, according to Re.ViCa.
France also believes that training our teachers is a very important requirement of our schools, and we have a program that helps new teachers develop their teaching skills through professional training and assessment. We believe that qualified teachers are necessary for a quality education and this resource needs to be addressed when providing education worldwide.
France has given one million euros to Yemen to support basic education and nutrition for over 250,000 people living in poverty. We promote an equal education for all and would like to encourage every country to do the same.
