Uzbeks within the southern region of Kyrgyzstan are requesting the United Nations’ help and humanitarian relief due to the conflict in their country. Is it the United Nations place to stand by and watch as people of the world are subjected to suffering? No, it is not and the United Nations should act according to why it was founded in the first place, to secure world peace and justice, and helping people to live in safety without the threat of war. Because, if the UN is a primarily peacekeeping organization that does nothing to help the peace then how can it be effective in other parts of it's mission like promoting world health?
On 7 April 2010, Kyrgyzstan President Kurmanbek Bakiyev imposed a state of emergency. Due to riotings going on in his country starting on April 6. He was forced to flee to neighboring Kazakhstan with his wife and children. At least 30,000 Uzbeks have fled from their country in search of a safe haven, yet it has not been as well publicized because it has not been going on for a very long time. However it should be because if the opposition has it's way and closes to U.S. Manas Air Base, the United States will no longer be able to keep as substantial a force present in the Middle East which could result in another Iraq-Iran like conflict.
So, the United Nations must send in peacekeeping forces into Krygystan to work out an agreement between all parties and have free elections take place to find out what the majority of it's people would like to have happen.
