Over the course of the 20th century, and on into this one, the world has watched as some ambitious nations looked up to the sky and began to involve themselves above as most only do here on Earth. Now in 2010, the most powerful nations among us continue to entrench their stance in space, filling it with many satellites and rockets for uses that are productive for the human race, and some that are decidedly otherwise. It is the duty of the United Nations to set the strictest of limits on the use of space, for otherwise, the Islamic Republic of Iran fears for the safety of us all.
We have watched all too sadly as our world has fallen into a severe imbalance of morality and power. Man has fallen so far below his potential for truth and justice, and corruption has driven those most powerful to capitalism, rather than monotheism, and neo-colonialism, rather than national egalitarianism. Although Iran could go on, suffice it to say that unless those of us here that have committed ourselves to the word of the Prophets take bold actions, those mighty nations that have left such values of peace and love far behind in exchange for dollars will surely extend this reign of injustice out of our atmosphere and into space. We cannot allow nations such as those in the West to conquer the moon as their own, in the same way they’ve attempted to conquer the Mid-East. Nor can we allow these nations, so ready to condemn the human rights records of other nations, to use satellites to spy on any innocent civilian anywhere, any time. There is no end to the investigations into our facilities within our own country, and yet the actions of nations like the United States go virtually unchecked as soon as they surpass 30,000 feet. Most importantly, Iran is simply looking out for the safety of the citizens of the world. We feel sure it is only a matter of time until some nation, greedy for unmatched arms power, bases weapons of mass destruction in space.
Unless, that is, fellow delegates, you join Iran today in a process that can change history. Who says, just because the P-5 nations have showed utter disregard for nuclear disarmament here on Earth, we can’t hold them to it beyond? The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that we must demand the highest level of diplomacy for ourselves, and with a deep commitment to our citizens in mind, set down legislation that no nation, not even those with their vetoes can ignore, we can mandate that outer space be left alone. Let us look to the stars and see the glorious work of the Creator, not the dooming work of the colonial machine.
