The spread of antibiotic resistant pathogens is a grave concern for the many developing countries of the world. According to UN reports, tuberculosis patients in Ukraine, as well as other eastern European nations, are ten times as likely to have a strand that is resistant to antibiotics as any other region in the world. With this in mind, Ukraine is ready to work with other nations in order to face this belligerent problem.
As established, some of the most effective ways to eradicate this problem are through educating the public on the proper times to use antibiotics. While it is agreed that antibiotics are vital in serious cases, the improper use of antibiotics must be combated. In addition, nations must recommit themselves to the reduction of antibiotic use in livestock. Ukraine is willing to work to increase standards on this issue, but it will take the unconditional cooperation of other nations to effectively combat this issue.
While Ukraine is making a conscious effort to curbing the spread of these pathogens, our efforts have not fully eradicated this problem. Ukraine needs the assistance of other nations in order to further our fight against antibiotic resistant pathogens. Although Ukraine realizes that the spread of antibiotic resistant pathogens is inevitable, we are more than willing to do whatever we have to do in order to reduce this problem as much as humanly possible. We hope that the other delegates will come into our productive conference with the same mindset, in the hopes that the United Nations can create a solution beneficial to all.
