Green Initiatives are essential to securing not only the future of Argentina, but for the future of all nations on Earth. Argentina has been attempting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through recycling programs, and reducing our reliance on forms of energy that have been proven to cause harm to the environment. Efforts by Argentina are not enough to ensure our future on this planet. Greater changes must be made in every nation around the Earth in order to rid ourselves of the fossil fuels that are ravaging our planet.
Argentina believes that the Kyoto Protocol that has demanded nations reduce greenhouse gases, should be extended beyond 2012. Argentina has only began to implement green initiatives, and will continue to change policies in order to reduce global warming and the use of fossil fuels.
Among the green initiatives Argentina would like to implement are greater use of wind power and recycling. Argentina has good conditions for wind power over 70 percent of its land, especially in Patagonia and southern Buenos Aires province (http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2009/12/wind-power-in-argentina-ready-for-take-off). We need more government incentives to encourage the growth of wind power and of recycling.
The environment must not only cease to be destroyed, but must be given time and effort in order to heal. The United Nations must take action in order to aid our planet and fix the damage we have created throughout our time on our planet. Argentina understands that if the United Nations as a whole recognizes our responsibility as humans to stop destroying our planet and restore our environment to stability and safety.
