The Democratic Republic of the Congo agrees that protecting humanitarian aid in conflict zones is an issue that deserves a resolution. Countries should be allowed a choice to have the aid, and if the country does not want the aid, then it should not be given. Humanitarian groups should not enter countries’ borders without permission from the central government.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the sixth largest recipient of humanitarian aid in the world. However, our country does not need such aid. Assistance is not needed, nor wanted. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is an independent nation and wishes to act in such manner. The DRC has not had any major military conflicts since a clash in 2007 after the first free election in forty years. An action like free elections is just one way that the Democratic Republic of the Congo can monitor and control itself.

Currently, an aid program is in place called MONUSCO. This program is funded by over thirty countries and led financially with India. Since our nation is already able to handle conflicts and control humanitarian aid itself, MONUSCO should not be in effect. The Democratic Republic of the Congo would like to see amendments made to MONUSCO to begin the decline of its assistance into our nation so humanitarian aid violence does not continue to occur in our nation due to the issue of unneeded and unwanted aid. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is an independent nation and wishes to be treated so accordingly. We wish for the option to choose how and when we receive aid and if we would like aid at all.
