Ladies and Gentlemen, a new resource is being quickly becoming a center of violence over procuring this necessity of life. I’m speaking of course about water. Water control has become the cause of difficult political relations between nations in the modern world. Such as the harsh relation between Sudan and Egypt, Sudan because it can control the amount of water that reaches Egypt by the Nile, is a large threat to their nation. Even the United States is guilty, infighting between their states over water, where Arizona sent militia to stop a dam building on the Colorado River. Nations that have a source of water are highly protective of it. The nations with out a reliable source are looking to claim a source, such as Israel recent invasions over water. The international community is lacking any useful international law for addressing this. The conflict over diamonds has been solved time and time again; the Kimberly process is in place and works. This committee should do what its meant to do, and reduce violence over resources, lets start with water.
The republic of Yemen believes water as a vital part of human life should be shared and no nation punished for its geographic location. We are all entitled to life; governments must make sure every nation has the ability to give water to its people. Regardless for its lack of economic strength to buy water.
The nations with excess water could have their cost covered to transport water by willing and able nations. There is plenty of water in this world. Yemen wishes for distribution in which no one dies of dehydration, and every nation has equal opportunities to access fresh water. Our world has made brave strides; we have a duty to make sure humanity as a whole doesn’t regress because of child like hoarding.
