In it’s history, Jamaica has had trouble with its effectiveness on small arms trade. Most of the small arms are exported from various countries in Europe and imported to Kingston. In 2010 Christopher Coke, alleged drug kingpin and small arms smuggler controlled the larger part of Kingston. As the leader of the Jamaican gang the Shower Posse Christopher had been running many of the risky drug smuggling to the U.S. from Jamaica. Coke was caught and extradited to the United States and on June 8th, 2012 plead guilty to federal racketeering charges in connection with drug trafficking and assault and has been sentenced to 23 years in Federal Prison by a Federal Court in New York States. Small arms trade has plague Jamaica for the better part of its history, but has made efforts to educate its people on different kinds of small arms trade, ammunition, and guns. This kind of training was set in place in order to prevent gangs in Jamaica from smuggling arms into the country. The people of Jamaica believe that the most effective way of combating the small arms trade is to first hit the source. The source being the Jamaicans who insist on bringing the weapons overseas back to Jamaica. And the first step in doing this is to educate the people of Jamaica by teaching them about ammunition and what a small arms smuggling operation looks like from the outside. And lastly Jamaica believes that the way to start the change is that ally countries should bond together and help one an other prevent the illegal gun trade operation within each country.
