Marriage is defined as a social union or legal contract between people that creates kinship. In the eyes of Mongolia premature marriage violates the rights of a child- which includes freedom from emotional and physical abuse. Mongolia wishes to see an end to child marriage as it can be harmful to not only their mental state- but also their physical state. As a nation, Mongolia stands against child marriage as means to protect the youth of our country.
Who is the primary victim of child marriage and how can we recover them from when their likely to be harmed in a situation of premature marriage? Primary victims of child marriage include children of families who are of lower class and either cant afford to sustain their children or have been suspect to religious affiliations. Mongolia views marriage as an agreement between two families and divorce is very rare. This agreement should not be forced upon anyone. A child is unable to consent to marriage, and therefore a child who is placed into marriage is forced. However, child marriage doesn’t seem to be a very widely discussed topic in mongolia, unlike polygamy. Clearly the marriage of minors need to be eradicated due to the fact that no person, especially a child should be put intentionally into harms way.
Briefly, Mongolian officials would like to expunge child marriage from our society. The elimination of this phenomenon cannot be done without the help of external driving forces. Mongolia believes it can be agreed upon that child marriage is taboo and needs to be put to an end.
