Nigeria believes in the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Throughout the revolutions in northern Africa such as: Libya and Egypt, peaceful democratic methods have worked best. In the past, Nigeria has faced a civil war of its own by the northern and southern side. The United Nations solved the issue peacefully and helped form a democratic system. Now with Goodluck Jonathon as a democratic leader, the country has more stability all resulting from the help of the United Nations.
It is important for a government to sit down and form resolutions without the loss of its citizens. In order for this to happen, all peaceful measures must come first. As a member of The African Union, Nigeria supports all peaceful measures taken to create democratic nations. This has occurred numerous times when a country is in turmoil. Peaceful resolution has ended in stability every time.
Nigeria feels that democracy is what matters most. Foreign military support in the form of soldiers is not what a country in rebellion needs. Nigeria feels that foreign support should be brought in the form of supplying money and aid for the democratic side. The United Nations should have an overwhelming role in setting a plan for democracy for any country in turmoil. Loyal opposition would include any country that fights for an equal democratic nation. National sovereignty only applies in situations that are good for the nation as a whole. If a country’s people are suffering from an oppressive government then the United Nations must act to peacefully fix the issue.
