The conflict resolution process has come along way from its founding in 1945. The idea to send help to struggling countries is a good one. To control the damage as much as possible, if not prevent it, but it still requires work. The process of mediating and the idea of sending envoys from the U.N. is a good one, but is sometimes hard to implement if the parties do not ask for help or there are too many to deal with at once. The problems may not be solved to the best of the abilities of the people sent. It is also harder to help set up democratic governments in some countries as there may be too many at once to effectively handle. To improve this the U.N. should only help counties asking for help first, unless there is an immediate threat from what another country is doing.
In the U.N. it is not always easy to determine who should be negotiating with whom as the main areas of problem countries. These days leaders and political governments change quite rapidly, as with one day you could be talking to one leader about trying to get clean water to their county and the next day he could be overthrown and you have to start again with a new leader. So it is often hard to decide who the “rebel” faction is as the people may have put the new leader in power. But the basic premise to determine who should be at a negotiating table should be based on the person or peoples previous actions, and their views on democracy and equal rights.
A nation’s national sovereignty should allow a nation the right to refuse some if not all help, but the nation should not be allowed sanction from judgment or be excluded from the basic rules after they have committed a crime. Just as a man can’t go out and smash someone’s car window, then go inside his house and claim they can’t come on his property, so it may be used to keep the U.N. from interfering. In the beginning there are the exceptions of when a country would hurt others or its own people.
