The access to affordable Pharmaceuticals is a huge problem not only in Ireland, but all over the world. The decreasing accebility and increasing cost cause huge problems for everyone. However Ireland is making an effort to make it´s pharmaceuticals more available and more affordable to it´s citizens.
A reason why pharmaceucticals arn´t availabe to everybody is that the cost is very high. Due to the huge expenses incurred by the drug industry for the research and development of new products and drugs which will improve the standarts of live. Another reason why pharamacuticals are so expensive is the money companies spend on advertisement and marketing. This results in fewer people being able to afford the health care.
Since 2004 Ireland has established a free or reduced cost healthcare system which garantees every citizen the right to reiceive lower cost medical tretment and medication under the condition of need of financial aid. However not every citizen can afford the pharmaciceuls the need. therefore it´s essential that the prices of medications drop. Available to everybody, not depending on the financial situtation of the individual. Ireland sees health as something everybody should have a right to. The sufficient supply of pharmaceuticals are essential to maitain public health.
Allowing patents to the companies while they refuse to sell supplies has caused the black market to grow. Resulting in increased selling of illegal medication or even selling of false medication. Ireland blieves that educating people on the dangers of the black market´s medications should be a top priority in fighting wrong use of sale and use.
