France would like to take this opportunity to address severity of the illegal drug trade in the world today and acknowledge how vital it is that the United Nations comes to a solution on how to combat the smuggling and trading of illegal drugs universally. Currently, France is acting to decrease the drug trade by gaining knowledge of the location for the supply of drugs within France, as well as offering treatment for those who are victims of drugs abuse in hopes that the demand for drugs decreases. Also, France is working further to gain knowledge by increasing methods of monitoring the drug trade, such as generating permanent survey machinery to evaluate the popularity of the use of certain illegal drugs.
France is also in full cooperation with other countries to combat the smuggling of drugs worldwide. As stated in France’s Drug Policy, France is working with the objective of redefining French topographical priorities as a function of the flow of drug traffic and prioritizing collaborating with Russia, South-East Asian countries, and Ukraine in effort to reduce supply and demand of drugs in relation to these areas. France’s focus has been more on targeting the consumers and shipments of illegal drugs. France has tracked shipments to monitor where and who the consumers are, and where the shipments are from. However, France fully understands and appreciates the importance of directing actions toward producers as well, and looks forward to exerting more effort in this department as well. France is in full support of European drug prevention quality standards, and France believes that working together with the UN to find resolutions to best fit every nation in the UN is the best way to combat the smuggling of illegal drugs.
In order to make these procedures effective, France has established treatment centers that provide three types of services, including: (i) outpatient care, (ii) inpatient care, and (iii) treatment for prison inmates. This will reduce demand for illegal drugs and minimize the smuggling of illegal drugs altogether. France understands how important it is to work with other countries (especially in Europe) to combat smuggling of drugs between countries. France wholeheartedly hopes to pass resolutions that will increase control of the drug trade, yet minimize the impact of smuggling of illegal drugs internationally.
