The smuggling of illegal drugs is a growing problem that is only expected to increase in coming years. Israel has already taken much action to prevent and or check the smuggling and trade of illegal drugs along its borders and within the country itself. Multiple programs have been established to enforce laws created regarding illegal drug smuggling: the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (DDO), and created inside the DDO the Israel Anti-Drug Authority (IADA) was founded which coordinates cross-ministerial development, management and implementation of all anti-drug activity. The borders are tightly regulated to minimize the smuggling of illegal drugs from foreign nations. The Israeli/Egyptian border is one that is heavily monitored for Israel has seized over 600kg or Marijuana and over 650 kg of Hashish in 2011 alone.
Israel would like to see the United Nations create resolutions constituting more regulation of the creation and distribution of illegal drugs globally. Israel understands that developing nations often turn to the manufacturing and selling of illegal drugs to ignite their economy, and encourages these nations to deter from their production for it often creates crime as well as promoting the use of these harmful drugs. Although Israel seeks to reduce the smuggling of illegal drugs, it wishes to see drugs such as Marijuana used for medicinal purposes, if and only if there are strict regulations on the production and consumption of this drug.
The state of Israel is deeply concerned with the future of drug networking around the world. Israel feels that a worldwide approach to the discontinuation of the creation of these illegal drugs is the most effective way to stop illegal drug smuggling. This can only happen with the complete cooperation with as many countries willing to participate as possible. As more countries agree to regulate and or stop the creation of illegal drugs, Israel believes the world will see a positive change with less drug smuggling globally.
